john ball on the covenant

Peter Reynolds writes to inform me he and his wife have prepared a printed fascimile edition of John Ball's A Treatise of the Covenant of Grace, which is available for 15 GBP from Diggory Press in the UK.

The Reynolds also sell old Christian books out of their home in Dingwall, Scotland via their website. Peter has a partial version of Ball's Treatise, with modern spelling, available already online.

John Ball was an Oxford educated clergyman and his A Treatise on the Covenant of Grace was published posthumously by Simeon Ash in June of 1645. It was prefaced with endorsements by five members of the Westminster Assembly itself (Anthony Burgess, Edmund Calamy, Daniel Cawdrey, Thomas Hill, and Edward Reynold), which went on for the next year to debate the doctrine of the covenant as it would appear in the Standards. Ball's Treatise provides some important context for the teaching of the Assembly.
